Lil Yachty, a multi-talented artist

Lil Yachty, an American rapper and singer, was born August 23, 1997. He has different names, known under Lil Yachty, RD, Darnell Boat, Lil Boat. Rapper, singer and songwriter, he was born in Mableton, Georgia (United States)

His beginnings in musical career

In 2015, he opted for his nautical stage name “Yachty”. He settled in New York City to launch his career, so he moved from his hometown in Atlanta. He lived with a friend and was used to network with personalities from the street fashion domain online. So, he created his personal Instagram following. Lil Yachty became prominent in December 2015. In fact, the SoundCloud version of his hit “One Night” was highlighted in a viral comedy video.

His debut mixtapes

Miles Parks McCollum chose his stage name, Lil Yachty, and got recognition in 2015, August, thanks to his singles “Minnesota” and “One night”. These songs came from his debut EP Summer Songs. He decided to release his debut mixtape “Lil Boat” in 2016, March. Then he signed a joint venture with different productions like Capitol Records, Quality Control Music and Motown Records.
He debuted as a model, with Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3, a fashion line situated at Madison Square Garden, in February 2016. His debut mixtape “Lil Boat” was launched at that time.
Two great songs “Summer Songs 2” and “Lil Boat” were launched in 2016. Following to this event, he decided to bring to the market his debut studio album “Teenage Emotions” in 2017, this opus received a great welcome.

His discography

In April 2016, Yachty got the opportunity to work with D.R.A.M, they collaborated on a hit song “Broccoli”. This song reached the 5th position on the BillboardHot 100. On “Chance the Rapper’s Colorink Book mixtape”, he participated to this hit which was released in May 2016. One month later, he announced that he wanted to sign a common venture record deal.
In December 2016, he joined the project of the hip hop single “iSpy” by Kyle. He participated in Tee Grizzley’s single called “From the D to the A”. This hit was launched then in March 2017.
2017 corresponds to the year of the consecration. On May 26, 2017, Lil Yachty launched his debut studio album entitled “Teenage Emotions”. This album gathers different guest appearances like Migos, Diplo, Grace, Evander Griiim and Stefflon Don, YG and many other artists. Therfore, Lil Yachty launched three promotion singles at the same time than the track. “Harley” is the first promotional single, it was produced by K Swisha and released on April 14, 2017.
Then, the second promotional single was called “Bring It Back” was produced by Free School, on May 4, 2017. And, finally, the third one “X Men” was produced by 30 Rocd and Tillie, it featured the appearance of a personality, the well-known American rapper Evander Griiim. The last and the most recent one was launched on May 18, 2017.

His musical style and influences

Lil Yachty gives a name to his particular style, he calls it “bubblegum trap”. Mumble rap is another name to describe his style. In fact, his songs sampled different sounds and styles coming from Mario Bros, the inspired theme from Rugrats, Charlie Brown and the sound like a startup from GameCube console. Themes and clouds are included in his work like Cotton Candy, Super Nintendo, and some scenes from Pixar films. A friend called Burberry Perry involves himself a lot to produce his songs. His music is revealed as “catchy” by Rolling Stone, and “intentionally dinky-sounding tunes”. These tunes are gathered with off-colour boasts, they are considered as amateurish singsong. His music is related as fun, hook-first pop rap” by the Guardian. His style has less influence on rap canon and very little interest for legacy.

His other artistic collaborations

According to his collaborations, Lil Yachty appeared as a guest in a Sprite commercial, with the presence as well of Lebron James. The artist was playing the piano there and he was localized in an ice cave. The singer was chosen to be the figure of the new UrbanOutfitter and Nautica collection. Lil Yachty appeared as well in a video entitled “It Takes Two” with the artist Carly Rae Jepsen.
