Biography

Paris-born, the hip-hop artist from Comorian heritage, Napoleon da Legend, grew up in Washington DC. He is only 16 years old when his family implodes and leaves the American continent. Convinced that the States would be the cradle of his success, he decides to stay there on his own and hangs onto his dream. From Washington DC to Brooklyn, he develops a rap that oozes intelligence, with an off-road flow that speaks loudly the injustices that plague our societies.

Napoleon da Legend definitely wants to split with the drift of hip-hop towards show business. He reconnects with the roots of the movement and seizes its historical popular and political assumptions. His convictions go even beyond words, he engages with American youth and conducts hip-hop workshops in the prison of Rikers Island and the tough neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

In 2018, he released his album « Coup d’État », where he fosters the engagement in the political space and constructive criticism while trying to restaure hope. In 2016, he released his acclaimed « Black privilege », four years before the tragic George Floyd’s death, explosion of the hashtag #blacklivesmatter and the awakening of the international society regarding structural racism. Napoleon da Legend resolutely stands out with avant-garde releases, both in content and form.

Prolific artist, he has delivered more than twenty projects since 2018 and demonstrates an outstanding creativity. He fuses genres and languages. In his project « Afrostreet » 1 and 2 he combines hip-hop with traditional sounds of Afrobeat. He also surprised critics with a cinematic inspired rap that samples the dramatic soundtracks from the Japanese anime universe with his albums Dragon Ball Z, Saint Seiya and Fist of the North Star.

He signed renowned collaborations with Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan and the legendary Akhenaton, thanks to whom he returned to singing in French. He tours internationally : from the main stage of Harlem Week, the largest European hip-hop festival Hip-Hop Kemp, to Mulhouse: Napoleon da Legend doesn’t hold back to anythink.

After creating a few anthems (« Poulet Maafe »), which became popular with his French speaking audience, NDL decided to put his French powers into high gear.  In September, 2019, he gave his first in interview in French with Mediapac, garnering over 100,000 views in less than a week. In May 2020, NDL featured on elite French rapper Akhenaton’s (IAM) “Asteroïde” project, trading verses in French and English on the innovative song “Storytellers”. In 2021, NDL was invited to adapt Akhenaton’s 19 minute song “La Faim de leur Monde” in English. They later collaborated on a 3-part EP series called “The Whole in my Heart” produced by Akhenaton on his label La Cosca. In 2023, he makes a masterly comeback with his album « Le Dernier Glacier ». For this project of 20 tracks he managed to collaborate with many prestigious guests like : Akhenaton, Alonzo, Ali, Driver, Stomy Bugsy, Dany DAN, Frero-110GN, Dj Scribe, Keila, Tiwoni, Mystik, DJ Djel, Solo, Architeknic, Dj Nixon, Jimmy Jay, Saïd, LoryLo, Kroys, K-rip, Mc Janik, Cheikh MC, Jaeyez, Don Tox, Lexy Walt, PPS the Writah, and Maqflah
