Tione Jayden Merritt, born April 30, 2001 in the Bronx district of New York. Better known as Lil Tjay, is an American rapper and songwriter.

His stage name is derived from the first letter of his first name and the first three letters of his middle name.

In 2018, Lil Tjay signed with Columbia Records. In July 2018, Lil Tjay worked with producer CashMoneyAP to release « None of Your Love. » Lil Tjay released his debut EP No Comparison in late 2018.

In January 2019, Lil Tjay collaborated on rapper Polo G‘s hit single « Pop Out, » which peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Later that year, he released the « F.N » EP; the project’s hit single, « F.N, » peaked at #56 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became his first solo song to top the charts.

Lil Tjay’s first studio album, True 2 Myself, was released on October 11, 2019. The following year, he released a State of Emergency mixtape featuring only New York City drill artists. True 2 Myself debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 .

In December, he participated in a remix of the song « Valentino » by 24kGoldn.

In early 2020, Lil Tjay re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 with his hit « 20/20 », which reached number 94. On May 8, 2020, he released the State of Emergency EP. The seven-song EP included the track « Zoo York, » featuring Fivio Foreign and Pop Smoke, which peaked at No. 65 on the Hot 100. In July 2020, Lil Tjay appeared on rapper Pop Smoke’s posthumous debut album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, on the track « Mood Swings, » which peaked at No. 17 on the Hot 100. On August 11, Lil Tjay participated in XXL’s 2020 Freshman Class.

His second studio album, Destined 2 Win, was released on April 2, 2021, and features the single « Calling My Phone, » a collaboration with American singer 6lack .

On March 19, Lil Tjay released « Headshot, » featuring Polo G and Fivio Foreign as the 2nd single from his 2nd studio album.
